Hi, I’m Karen Poch.

I am a licensed clinical social worker based in Brooklyn and serving clients throughout New York State. I received my M.S.W. from Columbia University and my M.S.Ed at Pace University in New York City. For 18 years I’ve helped individuals, families, children and parents find healing and move forward toward healthier relationships and approaches to life. I’ve spent over a decade years in NYC public schools as a special educator and school based social worker coaching neurodiverse families and children managing Autism, ADHD, OCD, Anxiety, and behavior challenges at all ages and stages.

Currently, I live in Brooklyn with my daughter, 20 pound black barn cat and my partner. We garden, go on family jogs, make music and love to explore art and nature together .

My Approach

I use a personalized approach to our work together that combines elements from CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Psychodynamic therapy, Insight-oriented therapy, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Narrative Therapy, Gottman Method, and Family Systems Therapy.

It all begins with you, your experiences, and your needs. We’ll work together to untangle the web of challenges and barriers in your world, understand and clarify your needs, then create a healthier plan to move forward. While I believe that exploring our past and emotions can help bring clarity for our future goals, I am also very solutions-focused in my approach. I strive to make sure you walk away from each session with a clear and concrete skill, reflection or strategy to practice throughout the week. Together, we will refine your toolbox to empower you for your next chapter in life.

For families interested in behavior coaching and parent training sessions, we will work together to create a concrete plan to shape behavior, strengthen rapport and build independence and understanding for your child. Most coaching structures will involve a combination of in-home observation and assessment as well as virtual parent coaching sessions.
